Tirupati: Tirupati Rural police on Friday arrested a 50-year-old man in connection with a theft case and recovered 60 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs 9 lakh.
The accused was identified as Govindaswamy, a resident of Chennai. He is an auto driver and originally belongs to Shankarapuram village in Gudiyatham of Vellore district.
According to police, the accused visited Tirumala on September 21 and later came to Tirupati to steal valuables. He allegedly stole a mobile phone from a person at a dental hospital in Bairagipatteda by using a paper sheet as a cover. Later, he reportedly stole a packet containing gold jewellery from a table at Andhra Pradesh Grameena Bank branch in Dhanalakshmi Nagar when the person at the counter moved away.
