Ramchander Rao accuses both parties of trading allegations while public issues remain unresolved

Hyderabad: BJP Telangana State president N Ramchander Rao on Friday accused the ruling Congress and BRS of being involved in a “quid pro quo” arrangement to shield each other from corruption allegations.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP State headquarters, Rao said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had raised questions over the properties of ministers and family members of the previous BRS government during his recent Sircilla visit. In response, BRS leaders levelled allegations of corruption against the Congress government.
He said the exchange of accusations would not benefit the people and alleged that both parties were engaged in a “how much did you eat, how much did I eat” type of political argument.
Rao recalled that Congress had promised before the Assembly elections to reopen corruption cases against the BRS government and make arrests within 100 days of assuming power. He alleged that the government had so far failed to fulfil the promise, restricting itself to public statements.
The BJP State chief also criticised the government over the implementation of GO 190 concerning teachers’ transfers and deputations. He claimed that nearly 4,000 teachers were eligible under the order but only a small number had benefited. He condemned the arrest of teachers protesting near Gandhi Bhavan and demanded that their grievances be addressed.
Rao also alleged that the Congress government was failing to address public issues and questioned the use of police action against teachers, farmers, students and political leaders.
He said people were looking towards the BJP as an alternative and appealed to intellectuals and politically aware youth to join the party.
Meanwhile, actor Vaibhav Surya, TV artiste and lawyer Swarnalatha, actor Laxman and cinematographers Suresh and Mahesh joined the BJP.
Earlier, Rao paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. At a Senior Citizens Day programme at A.V. College, he said the experience and wisdom of senior citizens should be shared with younger generations.
