Nimmagadda Ramesh writes to CS Nilam Sawhney, seeks cooperation to hold Local Body Elections

The local body election controversy between the Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission and Jagan Mohan Reddy government is taking several twists day by day. While State Election Commission contemplates to hold election is Jagan government is against it. SEC Nimmagadda Ramesh has already written twice to Chief Secretary Nilam Sawhney on the matter. However, he sent the letter for the third time as there is no response from chief secretary till now.

SEC Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar is making a concerted effort to hold a video conference with collectors, Zilla Parishad CEOs and Panchayati Raj officials on election preparations. But the meeting has been postponed as none of the officials attended the meeting set for Monday. Officials said they have no permission or direction from the government. But Nimmagadda Ramesh insisted on holding the meeting under any circumstances.

Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar wrote another letter to CS Nilam Sawhney attaching a copy of the High Court judgment. The letter recalled that the High Court had ruled that the government should co-operate with constitutional bodies. In its judgment, the court clarified that government co-operation in the conduct of elections and the performance of the duties of the Commission is mandatory. The court directed the Election Commission to resubmit its report on government cooperation. The same thing was mentioned by the Election Commissioner in his letter.

However, the people of the Telugu states are eagerly awaiting how the government will respond to this letter. It remains to be seen whether the government will have upper hand over the issue.
