Nellore: Cyclone victims demand financial assistance
Nellore: The cyclone-affected victims in the city on Wednesday staged a protest at the Tahsildar office demanding immediate financial assistance to victims. They raised slogans against the state government for providing only food and rehab during the rains. Speaking to media, CPI(M) city secretary M Ramesh said several colonies in the corporation limits were inundated with floodwaters for more than three days.
"Majority of the families lost their essentials and other electronic goods due to entering of floodwaters into houses.
Even there was no power supply in some houses for shifting material to safe places. People residing on the outskirts colonies were still facing hardships and there has been no support from the state government to the victims," said the CPI(M) leader.
Ministers and district officials had visited the areas and not assuring any financial help to the victimised families till now, he added. He demanded the government announce financial assistance to the victims immediately.
He also demanded the government to provide a permanent resolution from inundation during rainy season. CPI(M) leaders Kathi Srinivasulu, D Nageswar Rao, Madala Venkateswarlu, and others were present.
