Encourage children to hone their skills

Visakhapatnam: Experts from various sectors opined that parents and teachers should start making an effort to understand the skills and abilities of their children and felt that an examination result is just one of the many events in their life.

A two-day Student Connect programme with the theme 'Global trends in learning and skill development for right careers' organised by the AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (APCCIF) was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor of Andhra University Prof G Nageswara Rao here on Tuesday.

Addressing at the inaugural ceremony, Prof Nageswara Rao said that the programme was organising at an appropriate time with good intention to ward off students fears, depression and anxiety and give great deal of insight to choose right careers.

Exhorting the students and parents, G Sambasiva Rao, President, APCCIF said parental expectations, undue pressure, peer comparison and the inability to cope with a new environment were among the factors that tip students over the edge. The students should not take wrong decisions for the sake of failure. Rather students should be positively motivated by the parents and friends in such situations, Sambasiva Rao suggested.

Novelist and Personality Development Trainer Yandamuri Veerendranath, said most problems faced by students of the current generation were due to psychological reasons. Students feel stressed before examinations due to lack of confidence and inability to concentrate. Talking about the skills, he said, students have knowledge but fail in interviews due to lack of skills to communicate and express their mind.

Well known, industrialists, subject experts, academicians including Winny Patro, CEO of AP Innovation Society, Prof Srinivas Rao, Principal- Andhra University College of Engineering, Dr G Madhu Kumar, Secretary and Correspondent of Dr L Bullayya College, M Sudhir, Vice Chairman, APCCIF also spoke on various topics.
