Vice-Chancellor recalls Vikram Dev Verma's services to Andhra University

VC suggests that Vikram Dev Verma’s remarkable contribution to literature and his selfless service should be compiled into a book and promised that the varsity will extend support in printing it

Visakhapatnam: Carving a sand sculpture of Rajah Vikram Dev Verma of Jeypore Kingdom, paying floral tributes to his statue at Department of Physics, Andhra University, distributing prizes to winners of painting contest, among other events formed a part of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of the Maharaj celebrated with fervour here on Friday.

Jointly organised by Mayank Kumari Deo of Jeypore royal family and Kalinga Odia Academy, the celebration saw academicians recalling his significant contribution in the field of art, culture and education.

Participating in the celebrations, Andhra University Vice-Chancellor Prof G Nageswara Rao said that Vikram Dev Verma, who was a scholar, poet and patriot, strived hard to develop Visakhapatnam as an educational hub.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayank Kumari Deo recalled Vikram Dev Verma's steps to promote art and literature in Visakhapatnam.

Invitees at the ceremony said that Vikram Dev Verma was a prolific writer and wrote books in Odia, English, Hindi and Telugu.

Former Chief Minister of Odisha Giridhar Gamang, AU Registrar K Niranjan and founder-secretary of Kalinga Odia Academy S N Behera were among those who paid rich tributes to Vikram Dev Verma.
