The engineering counselling schedule has gone out of gear as the authorities have postponed the registration of web options, which is slated to be opened up from Thursday (August 22). Authorities of Higher Education Council have merely told media that new dates would be announced later- may be after four days- after assessing the ground situation.
As per the original schedule, the verification process should wind up on August 30 and choosing of options i.e. college and branch of study- should be done between August 22 and August 30. The change of options can be done between August 31 and September 3. The allotment of seats will have to be done on September 5 and classes will commence from September 10 or 11.
This schedule will go topsy turvy now, and if the words of officials of Higher Education Council are any indication, the process may go beyond September 15-20. “The verification is the only big hurdle. If it is completed, the registration of options can be done in few days. That’s why I once again appeal to the agitating employees of polytechnic colleges to help complete the process smoothly in the larger interests of students” Prof P Jayaprakasharao, Chairman of Higher Education Council told The Hans India.
Meanwhile, the registration of candidates has further improved on Wednesday in Seemandhra region although more number of helpline centres could not function due to boycott of work by staff. Of 37 Helpline centres, as many as 20 have not functioned due to the agitation by the integrationists. Among the three new centres, the one in Vizianagaram did not function.
“Visakhapatnam is a cause of worry for us as the counselling was badly hit there. Same is the case at Nandyal, Kurnool, Chittor, Ananthapuram etc. One factor that revives our hopes is that rankers started going to some areas in Telangana districts for verification as the situation is peaceful there. We got reports that some from coastal regions have turned up at Nalgonda and some rankers from Anathapuram at Wanaparthy in Mahbubnagar district. This is a positive indication. We have now decided to open up three more centres in Hyderabad to increase the registrations. They will be set up at Nizam College, Govt College at Saifabad and PG College, Secunderabad” Jayaprakasha Rao said.
According to Raghunath, Camp officer of Counselling, the total number of rankers turned up in the state on Wednesday was 9,432 and of them 4,216 in Seemandhra and the remaining 5,216 in the 32 centres of Telangana region.
Out of 45,000 rankers who should get their certificates verified till date, screening of certificates of 24,000 is already over, Raghunath disclosed.
Meanwhile, the Higher Education Council is still undecided on how to go ahead with the filling up of management quota seats in the wake of High Court’s verdict on Tuesday. “We are yet to get the copy and we seek some clarifications” Jayaprakasha Rao said. An amended GO to the GO No 66 may have to be released, he told The Hans India.
