Bhubaneswar Woman Alleges Rape At Gunpoint By Masked Intruder, Police Launch Probe

A 26-year-old woman has alleged that she was raped at gunpoint by a masked man who entered her rented accommodation in Bhubaneswar’s Nayapalli area late on Wednesday night, police said on Thursday.

Later, the woman went to Nayapalli police station and lodged a complaint, saying that the unknown man had gone to her flat on the ground floor, told her to sit on the floor and sexually assaulted her and then fled with a possible gun.

Police launch inquiry into allegedly violent attack

After the complaint, police had registered a case and started investigating the circumstances related to the alleged incident.

The DCP of the city of Bhubaneshwar, Saravana Vivek M, said that the senior officers of the police have visited there and the investigation was underway to take the suspect into custody.

The police are looking into the evidence and how the accused allegedly got into the premises.

The woman was allegedly threatened with a gun by alleged attacker, according to complaint. But police have not yet determined whether it was a real gun or a toy gun.

Police are also probing what was going on inside the rented flat at the time of the alleged incident.

The owner is staying at another floor of the building, the woman is staying in the building with her older sister. The police are looking to see if the sister witnessed the alleged assault.

Probe Underway To Identify Suspect

Police teams are working to identify the accused and where he is, and are searching to find out his identity.

A further investigation is underway into whether the woman knew the man, even though she told investigators that he was a stranger.

Senior police officials have been scouring the area in the course of the investigation. More information will be available once police have gathered evidence and taken statements.

The police have not yet said who they are arresting in connection with the case.

The charges are open for investigation and the identity of the chargesheeted or the motive for the charges has not been made known.
