iPhone 18 Pro Speaker Crackling Issue Reported, Apple Yet to Respond
In Short
iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max owners report unexpected crackling, popping and clicking sounds, while Apple has yet to confirm the issue.

Apple’s latest iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models are facing reports of an unusual speaker problem
Apple’s latest iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models are facing reports of an unusual speaker problem, with some users hearing crackling, clicking and popping sounds during regular use. Complaints shared on Reddit and the MacRumors forums suggest that the issue may involve the earpiece speaker, although the exact cause remains unknown.
iPhone 18 Pro users report unusual sounds
Affected owners have described different versions of the problem. In some cases, users report intermittent crackling or faint popping noises, while others say they hear random clicks from the speaker. The issue does not appear to occur in exactly the same way for everyone.
Both the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max have reportedly been affected. However, there is currently no confirmation from Apple about what may be triggering the sounds.
When does the crackling occur?
User reports indicate that the unusual noises can appear during several everyday activities. These include using apps, scrolling through websites, receiving notifications, opening the keyboard and making cellular calls.
Some users have also reported being able to reproduce the sound by quickly switching Airplane Mode on and off. Rapidly changing the display brightness has reportedly triggered similar noises on some affected devices.
iOS 27.0.1 reportedly does not solve the problem
Apple released iOS 27.0.1 on September 28 to address a bug that could cause some iPhone 18 Pro models to restart when Face ID authentication failed. However, the update’s release notes did not mention any speaker-related problem.
Early feedback from affected users suggests that updating to iOS 27.0.1 has not eliminated the crackling or clicking sounds.
Apple has not confirmed the cause
The reports have also raised questions about whether the problem is hardware- or software-related. Some users have reportedly exchanged their affected iPhones but experienced the same issue on replacement units.
For now, Apple has not officially acknowledged the speaker problem or announced a fix. If the issue is software-related, a future iOS update could potentially address it. Until Apple provides more information, however, the extent of the problem and its underlying cause remain unclear.
