Need to expand BC rights: Hanumantha Rao

Gadwal: The ‘BC Simha Garjana’ was held in Gadwal on Friday seeking BC rights and adequate political representation. The programme was organised following a TPCC call and directions of AICC leadership and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.

Government Advisor V Hanumantha Rao addressed the gathering on the occasion and asserted there was a need to expand the movement for BC rights through democratic and constitutional means. He said an action plan would be prepared to conduct meetings and awareness programmes across the State for 100 days, followed by a large-scale programme in Delhi.

The organisers said the BC Simha Garjana was not merely a one-day event but a platform to create awareness among the BC community and pursue their demands. They called for opportunities in education, employment and political representation in proportion to the population and raised the demand for 42 per cent reservations for BCs. Gadwal DCC president Rajeev Reddy said quality education for children, employment and livelihood opportunities for youth, economic empowerment of women, support for BC professions and adequate political representation required unity, awareness and collective efforts among BC communities. Speakers called upon BC communities to set aside differences of caste, region and groups and raise their voice peacefully through democratic means for constitutional rights.

Later, the participants took out a procession from the old bus stand to the Phule statue at Krishnaveni Chowrasta and the Ambedkar statues, where they paid floral tributes.

They also submitted a memorandum containing OBC demands to District Collector Rizwan Basha Shaik at the Collectorate. AICC OBC leader Rudra Santosh, TPCC General Secretary Srinivas Goud, Mahabubnagar DCC president Sanjeev Mudiraj, and others participated in the event.
