Jeedimetla: Though Jeedimetla, GHMC ward no. 32 is a fast-growing locality in the city, it is one of the most neglected wards in Quthbullapur Circle. With approximately a population of 40,000, it covers major areas like Meenakshi Estate, Jeedimetla Village, Ram Raj Nagar, Jeedimetla Bank Colony, MN Reddy Nagar and Ayodhya Nagar.

The perennial issues faced by the residents include lack of proper roads, proper drainage system, no UPHC or Basti Dawakhana, lack of streetlights, sanitation and acute shortage of drinking water.

One of the basic needs of this ward is the Urban Primary Health Center (UPHC) or a Basti Dawakhana as the locals are forced to visit government-run health clinics in another wards. The officials have turned a deaf ear to the several representations made on the issues by the locals.

This SC (women) reserved ward is represented by TRS corporator K Padma Goud after winning 2016 corporation polls by garnering 10,261 votes against the nearest rival G Swathika Reddy (TDP) who received 6,647 votes.

Pressing issues in the ward

"Several promises that were made by corporator K Padma Goud, not a single one has been fulfilled. The promise to set up a UPHC has remained on paper. Every monsoon the colonies here face heavy flooding as the old drainage pipelines overflow with a little amount of rain. Due to the poor sewerage system, the drain water gets stagnated on the road and even enter the houses. Besides this the internal roads and footpaths are also not properly laid," said Laxmi, a resident of Jeedimetla Village.

"Almost all the roads in the ward are damaged and the garbage dumped in open and roadside are not regularly cleared as a result the residents face mosquito menace and hygiene issues. Due to the piled-up waste, there is an increase in the dog and pig menace in localities," said J Ramesh, a resident of Ayodhya Nagar.

"The bad condition of roads is one of the common issues faced by the residents of ward. The contractors dug up internal lanes for laying sewerage pipeline but leave the work incomplete without levelling them. The pothole filled roads cause inconvenience to the motorists and commuters and it becomes more risky in nights due to lack of streetlights in the lanes," said Joesph, a resident of Jeedimetla Bank Colony.
