Velugu workers beg on streets

Ongole: The Velugu workers who are on relay hunger strike for the last 10 days at Collectorate, demanding that the government address their issues pending for a long time, staged a begging a protest and organized a human chain at the Church center here on Thursday.

The Prakasam district Velugu employees joint action committee conveners B Narendra Kumar, N Venkatarao, K Venkata Swamy, A Sowri Babu explained that they are working in the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty as fixed tenure employees for the last 18 years and are instrumental in the implementation of the various welfare schemes by the government, but having meager salaries. 

They said that the chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has promised them to regularize all of them but didn’t keep his word, along with addressing their various issues.

They said that they are agitating against the government with the demands for their regularisation of service, recognizing SERP as the government body, considering the service of staff and offering promotions along with the pay and cadre fixation, take up compassionate appointments along with other issues. 

They announced that they will continue their agitation until the government takes a positive decision on their demands.
