Regular book reading leads to better society
Chikkadpally: As part of 52nd National Library Week celebrations, Telangana Granthalaya Parishad chairman Ayachitham Sridhar inaugurated a book exhibition at City Central Library here on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Sridhar emphasised on the need for the promotion of book reading habits among people. He said that books improve one's wisdom and raises awareness on life. Every house should have a library and regular book reading would help in creating better society, he said.
Comparing the knowledge gained through electronic gadgets to hotel food, he compared knowledge secured through book reading to mother's food. Referring to the increasing suicides due to mental depression, he said that reading of literature would prevent such incidents.
City central library chairperson Prasanna Murthy, said that information revolution has made world a global village and stressed on the need for libraries to become information distribution centres to cater to modern needs.
She said that the library had been mostly computerised and efforts were being made to develop it even further. She lauded the efforts of the state government for developing libraries across the State. She said that various programmes were being conducted as part of National Library Week celebrations in the city till November 20.Library association secretary Padmaja, Rammurthy and others participated in the programme.
