Prisoners Welfare Day held on Gandhi Jayanthi
Chanchalguda: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi, 'Prisoners' Welfare Day' was celebrated at Central Prison in Chanchalguda on Wednesday.
Metropolitan Sessions Judge N Tukaramji attended the programme as the Chief Guest and Inspector General of Prisons B Saidaiah was the guest of honour. Metropolitan Legal Services Authority Secretary Md Azhar Hussain was also present on the occasion.
Amma Foundation Chairman Anil Kumar and singer Gudupudi Sridhar sponsored the cultural programmes, which entertained the prisoners. On this occasion, Superintendent of Prisons Dr D Srinivas narrated the welfare programmes and other reformative and rehabilitative programmes being implemented to benefit the prisoners in the Central Prison. He further reported that the implementation of various reformation programmes in Telangana State prisons has led to reduction in the habitual offenders.
Tukaramji appreciated the efforts of the Prisons Department. He lauded the efforts of the department in implementing various reformation programmes that resulted in the reduction of habitual offenders. Saidaiah has also explained about the unique programmes by Prisons department, such as PT, parade, literacy, Yoga, counseling classes etc., for the reformation of prisoners.
He informed that the department was providing financial assistance to needy prisoners from Prison Development Fund. Deputy Superintendent of Jail S Srinivas Reddy and G Vennkateshwarlu, Jailors A Venkatesham, Shashikanth, R Srinivas, S Vijay Kumar and other jail officers and staff were also present on the occasion.
