He said strong foul smell is emanating from the 3-km open nala of the cheruvu, and that the water body, spread over 42.23 acres, has been reduced to a garbage dump and turned into Nalla Cheruvu, as about 65 factories are located in Nacharam and Mallapur.

The minister said that he would hold discussions with the managements of the factories to make them establish their own STPs, after taking the issue to the notice of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

He directed the Boduppal municipal staff to immediately take up the cleaning work of the nala. He pointed out that colony residents have been facing severe hardships and various ailments due to the polluted sewerage. "I am committed to liberate the residents from the menace," Reddy declared. Addressing the voters, he vowed that he would also beautify the Boduppal Cheruvu.
