3-tier security cover at strongrooms

Tirupati: The district police provided three-tier security for Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) kept in strongrooms at RVS and SITAMS colleges near Chittoor. The EVMs belonging to the 3 Parliament and 14 Assembly constituencies were moved to Chittoor and will be stored till May 23, the counting day. A total of 9,120 EVMs, VVPATs and control units were kept in strongrooms.

District Election Officer and Collector PS Pradyumna and SP Vikrant Patil are directly supervising the security of strongrooms. The three-tier security consists of armed reserve police personnel posted outside the strongrooms, high resolution CCTV cameras were set up in strategic points to closely monitor moments of authorised staff inside the premises of colleges and in security by paramilitary forces. In addition to three-tier security, the police will be patrolling outside the colleges at regular intervals.

The Collector, SP and control room was given access to CCTVs to monitor strongrooms round-the-clock from their mobiles and TV screens. The Collector barred entry of district and police officials into the strongrooms.

According to information, suspecting the manipulation of the voting data in EVMs, the TDP, YSRCP and JSP candidates have placed their followers in the vicinity of colleges to detect any suspicious activities.
