Google Adds AI Features to Gmail and Docs, Bringing Voice-Based Controls
In Short
Google has launched Gemini voice features for Gmail, Docs and Keep within Workspace. Gemini lets people search, write and organise information by speaking. Google will give business users Gemini access soon.

You can now talk to Gemini AI to do things
You can now talk to Gemini AI to do things. Google has added new voice features to Gmail, Docs and Keep that let people find emails, make documents and arrange notes by talking. The idea is easy to understand: by typing everything you can now use your voice to finish tasks in Google Workspace.
Google announced these updates in a blog post. The new Gemini voice tools are being rolled out to Workspace and the company says these features help users draft documents locate information in their inboxes and capture ideas using their voice.
New Gemini voice features are being released so you can search through your Gmail inbox, sort ideas and tasks in Keep and make documents in Docs— all by talking. Ready now for Google AI members!" said Google CEO Sundar Pichai in a post on X, about the update.
Let’s take a quick look at how to use this new voice feature with Gemini AI.
The update adds three voice tools to Google Workspace. They are called Gmail Live, Docs Live and Keep Live. Each one is meant for a job. The idea is the same. You. Gemini does the work.
Gmail Live
First up is Gmail Live. This voice feature lets you search your inbox by asking Gemini a question. By opening several emails or scrolling through long message threads you can ask something like, "What is my flight's boarding gate?". What activities are happening at my child’s school this week?" Gmail Live looks through your inbox. Gives you the information you need.
Docs Live
Next is Docs Live, which Google says is a hand- brainstorming helper. If you have an idea but don't know how to begin you can talk directly to Docs Live. Share your thoughts. Gemini can take that flow of ideas. Turn it into a clear organized document.
With permission Docs Live can pull information from Gmail, Drive, Chat and the web. Google says that Docs Live can help with brainstorming, outlining and even changing the tone while drafting the version.
Keep Live
The name shows that this feature works inside Google Keep. This feature is made to capture ideas. You can simply speak whatever comes to mind out loud and Gemini will turn that flow of ideas into tidy notes, lists and clear tasks.
Availability
The new Gemini AI voice features are rolling out this week. Gmail Live and Keep Live are available to subscribers of Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra plans, while Docs Live is available to subscribers of Pro and Ultra plans. The company has announced that these features will also be coming soon to Google Workspace enterprise customers.
