It’s a tough fight for TRS in Karimnagar district

Karimnagar: Four new Assembly constituencies – Karimnagar, Huzurabad, Manakondur and Choppadandi – were formed after the bifurcation of Karimnagar district. The candidates of various parties are vying with each other to ensure their victory in the coming Assembly elections.

The Karimnagar Assembly constituency, the headquarters of Karimnagar district, has a great history in the entire north Telangana. It is the educational hub for students with many government and private educational institutions, besides Satavahana University and two medical colleges – Pratima Institute of Sciences and Chalmeda Anand Rao Institute of Medical Sciences.

There are historic Elgandal Fort and Tower Circle and Lower Manair Dam constructed over Manair River in the district. Formed in 1952, it has strong political history. Senior Congress leader Juvvadi Chokka Rao left his mark in the constituency, who was elected twice as MLA in 1967 and 1971 and third time to parliament. In 2014 Assembly elections, TRS candidate Gangula Kamalakar won the seat by defeating BJP candidate Bandi Sanjay Kumar with a margin of 24,754 votes.

Formed in 1952, it was Kamalapur before delimitation in 2008 and changed into Huzurabad, which is an agricultural constituency with SRSP canal passing through the segment and is famous for its weekly cattle fair.

It comes under Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency with Huzurabad, Jammikunta, Veenavanka and Kamalapur mandals. It was one of the strong hold of TDP in the past.

Muddasani Damodar Reddy won from 1985 to 1999 on TDP ticket continuously. After 2004, it has become a strong hold for TRS with Eatala Rajender winning continuously till date. In 2014 Assembly elections TRS candidate Eatala Rajender won the seat by defeating Congress candidate Kethri Sudarshan Reddy with a margin of 57,037 votes.

Manakondur Assembly constituency is more of an agricultural area where paddy cultivation is more in the region. Hence the area has more rice mills.

The Assembly constituency was formed in 2008 including five mandals Manakodur, Ellanthakunta, Bejjanki, Shankarapatnam and Thimmapur. It falls under Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency. Congress candidate Arepalli Mohan was elected as MLA from 2008 to 2014.

In 2014 Assembly elections TRS candidate Rasamai Balakishan won the seat by defeating Congress candidate Arepally Mohan with a margin of 46,922 votes.

Choppadandi Assembly constituency is one of the largest cotton and chilli producing areas in the Telangana. It was formed in 1952 and was a strong hold for TDP in the past with Nelakonda Ramakrishna Rao winning thrice from the constituency on TDP ticket.

In 2014 Assembly elections TRS candidate Bodige Shoba won the seat by defeating Congress candidate Suddala Devaiah with a margin of 54,981 votes.

TRS: The TRS candidates are striving hard to retain their strong hold in the district as they had won all the four constituencies in 2014 Assembly elections. They are confident that the development that took place in 4 ½ years in their respective constituencies and in the district, various welfare schemes introduced for the wellbeing of all sections of people will ensure their victory in the coming Assembly elections.

Mahakutami: The Congress determined to defeat the TRS and formed Mahakutami with TDP, TJS and CPI with perfect planning. The parties in the grand alliance has fielded their winning horses in the 2018 Assembly elections, after conducting several surveys.

BJP: Meanwhile, the BJP is totally dependent on the charisma of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and various reforms and welfare schemes introduced by the BJP government. The party is ready to give a tough fight for both the TRS and Mahakutami.

Now the future of all the contestants is at the mercy of the voters, who are going to decide their fate on December 7.
