​Hyderabad: Fresh spell of heavy rains brought a temporary relief to the farmers engaged in the ongoing kharif season in Telangana. Srisailam reservoir and Godavari basin projects are receiving heavy inflows. Water levels in Srisailam has reached 870 feet of the total 885 feet capacity. The available inflows will help to fetch irrigation needs in Krishna basin in Telangana in the next two months. On the same day last year, water levels in the reservoir was registered at 778 feet only. Officials said that the total water storage in Srisailam reservoir has been reached 143tmcft out of the total capacity of 215 tmc ft.

The inflows in the Srisailam are nearly one lack cusecs and the outflows are 35,000 cusecs. As the Krishna River Management Board already allocated water between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, officials said that the heavy inflows in Krishna basin projects will address irrigation needs in the ongoing kharif season. The Krishna River Management Board has allotted 30 TMCft of water to Telangana and 25 tmcft to Andhra Pradesh to meet water needs, till this month end. Officials said that the inflows in the reservoir will be released based on the allocations made to two States by the Board.

In Godavari basin, the Sripada Yellampalli Project is receiving 1,35,280 cusecs of water from the upper streams. As against 20 tmcft capacity, the project is already filled with 19 tmcft of water. Nizam Sagar and Sriram Sagar projects are also getting steady inflows for the last two days. However, the water levels in the two projects are still low, officials predicting that the projects in Godavari basin will get good inflows in the coming days. The available water will be released to protect the crops from the threat of withering in the present agricultural season.
