​Hyderabad: The two-day Technical Symposium “Convergence 2k18 Reloaded” commenced at Vallurupalli Nageswara Rao Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology on Friday. Masafumi Muzino, CEO of Japan Automatic Machine Co. Ltd. (JAM), and U Ramamohan, Superintendent of Police of the Cybercrime Division of the CID-Telangana State, attended the event as its Chief Guests.
Chief Guest Masafumi Muzino, CEO of JAM Co. Ltd., thanked Indians for their contribution to India, right from the times of Subhash Chandra Bose. He pointed that robots have been a developed for entertainment industry but robots for disaster management is a societal necessity and explained with videos how his company works towards development of such robotics that conduct rescue operations and also improve the general standard of living of Japan’s society.
Muzino pointed that Indian population is much younger than the Japanese population and that Japan welcomes aspiring and technologically skilled Indian youth who place utmost value in discipline, humanity, and trust like in the Japanese society. He added that JAM has expanded its manufacturing to India recently and wishes to collaborate more with Indian technologists.
Chief Guest IPS Officer, U Ramamohan, expressed his concern that technology proliferation has opened gates widely to new age crimes and the he moved from “bombs to bandwidth” or hardware to software because he realised the extent of cybercrime while investigating a sensational case of a fake lottery winner Kola Krishnamohan in 1997.Humans must not turn into machines, Ramamohan said, and that too much dependence on smart technologies enslaves us and drags down the quality of life. He said that his Department is on a constant urge to upgrade their technical knowledge and those students must also develop strong fundamental knowledge in science and engineering.
He pointed that technology is a double-edged sword that must be ensured to be used only for the public good by applying design thinking to develop social skills to interact with the users and know their real problems before solving them. Mr. Ramamohan cautioned the students among the audience that employers today gauge their prospective employees’ profiles through the latter’s participation and presence in social networks and that the same information can also be a weapon that can fall in wrong hands.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr D N Rao, President-Vignana Jyothi, said that the Institute is preparing its graduates to the fourth Industrial Revolution by focusing on advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, etc. under the name “Mezzanine Technologies”. Dr Rao pointed that India is at the 133rd position among 156 countries in the World Happiness Report 2018 and that the current generation of students must focus on moving it up in the future by blending social skills and professional skills.
He said that the convergence of Presencing and Design Thinking to sense not just the present but also the future has enabled the Institute to be given an A++ grade in the recent NAAC reaccreditation, drawing a path for the Institute to be a University soon. B.
Sarath Gopal, General Secretary-Vignana Jyothi, insisted that students must think about societal problems and solve them with the convergence of technology. Gopal insisted that spending time with family and respecting parents is important. He said that staying happy must be the goal, pointing that all happy people are successful. He expressed his happiness that the Institute’s students have always been expressing social responsibility through various activities.
Dr. C.D. Naidu, Principal, revealed that the 20th iteration of the Institute’s Technical Symposium, “Convergence 2k18 Reloaded”, is a platform to exhibit students’ skills and accomplishments in the technology arena. Prof. V.S.S. Kumar, CEO-Vignana Jyothi, said that students must necessarily catch up with fast-paced changes in the technology to succeed.
Faculty Coordinator of the Symposium, Dr. P. Kishore, said that “Convergence 2k18 Reloaded” showcases the technological prowess of students through projects and products on display and also hosts 10 technical workshops, technical paper presentation of over 200 papers among 300 submitted, 6 professional talks, drone wars, robotics, and numerous activities under the name “Saaradhi” that spread awareness of social responsibility.
