Vijayawada: About 1,200 dogs were administered anti-rabies vaccine at a programme organised by veterinary department of Krishna district at Government Veterinary Hospital at Labbipet here to mark World Zoonoses Day on Friday.

Marketing Minister Adinarayana Reddy, participating in the programme, said that the government was planning to launch cattle insurance to all the cattle across the state and the premium amount would be paid by the government.

He said that milk and meat production should be done in a hygienic way taking all precautionary measures.

He said that as per the Animal welfare guidelines, birth rate of the animals should be controlled through surgeries.

All the dogs should be given anti-rabies vaccine once in a year without fail, said the minister.

Dr V Surya Kumar, Joint Director of Veterinary Department said that the diseases spread to human beings from animal infections.

About 280 diseases were identified under this category. Among them, rabies was the dangerous one which spreads from dogs.
