London: London hosted “Yoga: An Appeal for Peace,” an event organised by the Swami Chidananda World Peace Foundation, Brahma Vidya, Shree Jagannath Society UK (SJSUK), and Odisha Society of United Kingdom. The gathering brought together hundreds of spiritual leaders, community representatives, and government officials in a solemn atmosphere.

The glittering ceremony at London’s Nehru Centre celebrating Swami Sivananda Saraswati’s 139th birth anniversary sparked unprecedented excitement among organisers and attendees.

The event opened with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp, Vedic chanting, an Odissi dance recital by Prem Sahoo, and a video on Swami Sivananda’s life and philosophy. Dignitaries at the summit emphasised that Swami Sivananda’s teachings of selfless service, universal love, and world peace remain highly relevant during today’s global unrest.

During the event, Swami Chidananda World Peace Foundation’s founder and author, Swami Brahmanishtananda Saraswati, and Mauritian Deputy High Commissioner Kevin Payendee launched the book “Sivananda Yoga–A Worldwide Phenomenon.” The book details how practising Swami Sivananda’s core teachings—service, love, purification, and meditation—can lead to spiritual salvation. It emphasises that individual responsibility in these practices is key to creating a more peaceful and sustainable world.

Swami Brahmanishtananda Saraswati emphasised that Yoga must transcend physical exercises to become a daily practice accessible to all nationalities, communities, and faiths. He advocated connecting with Swami Vivekananda’s four paths of Yoga—Jnana, Raja, Bhakti, and Karma—urging followers to translate these spiritual teachings into personal practice. Ultimately, he taught that cultivating inner peace is the essential first step to spreading harmony within families and the wider world.
