Hyderabad rape and murder case incites discussion in Rajya Sabha

NEW DELHI: In the Upper House on Monday, during a series of speeches that were made by MPs regarding the horrific incident which had occurred in the state of Telangana.

The Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan said people such as the four lorry workers in Telangana who have been accused of raping and killing a young woman veterinarian should be lynched in public.

Vijila Sathyananth, the MP of the AIADMK, said before the 31 of December the four workers who have been accused of such a crime should be hanged.

Ghulam Nabi Azad of Congress, who is the leader of the opposition said that the solution for the problem is not just through legislation but also there was a need to "take a stand together against such crimes".

Venkaiah Naidu, Vice-President and the Chairman of Rajya Sabha said there was no new bill required but rather it is "political will, administrative skill," and a change of mindset is needed to make a "go for the kill of the social evil.''

The Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has ordered for an establishment of a fast-track court trial of the gang rape-murder case. He has also made a pledge of providing all necessary help to the family of the victim.

The mother of the victim in 2012 gang-rape incident of Nirbhaya, whose family is still seeking justice as they have been fighting for seven years, Asha Devi had said that the suffering of the young woman from Telangana was "barbaric". The woman who was in her mid-twenties should get justice soon, she said.
