Healthy citizens are the foundation of “Viksit Bharat”: Kishan Reddy
Hyderabad: Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy has called for making nutrition, health and fitness awareness a people’s movement, stressing that a healthy population is essential to achieving the vision of “Viksit Bharat by 2047”. Addressing the valedictory programme of the five-day “Poshan Maah” celebrations organised by the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) at AV College grounds here on Saturday, the Central minister urged the citizens to adopt healthy diets, adequate sleep and regular physical activity such as walking, yoga and sports.
He advised people to cut down on excessive oil, sugar and junk food and prefer fresh, nutritious home-cooked meals. Expressing concern over lifestyle-related health issues among children and youth, he stressed the need to develop healthy habits from an early age and maintain a balance between screen time and physical activity. On drug abuse, Reddy said building a drug-free India was a collective responsibility involving parents, teachers, educational institutions, police, voluntary organisations and society. He said initiatives such as “Nasha Mukt Bharat and Fit India” were vital to building a healthier and stronger nation.
The Minister appreciated the POSHAN MAAH activities, including quiz, poster-making, video-making and nutritious recipe competitions, and encouraged students, youth and women to become ambassadors of healthy living. PIB and CBC Additional Director General Shruti Patil said the five-day programme had created awareness among students about nutrition, balanced diets and healthy lifestyles through interactive activities. She urged families to turn awareness into action, saying even small changes in everyday food and lifestyle choices could contribute to a healthier and more productive India. Senior officials, A.V. Education Board Member K. Vinod Reddy, A.V. College Correspondent, teachers, students and other dignitaries attended the programme.
