CM calls it ‘significant day for the state’

Bengaluru: Karnataka has got its second woman Governor, making Friday a significant day for the state, Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said. He was speaking at a welcome ceremony for newly appointed Governor Dr. Sudha Yadav and a farewell function for outgoing Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot at the Banquet Hall of Vidhana Soudha on Friday. “We had earlier worked with Ramadevi, Karnataka’s first woman Governor. Now, we have the opportunity to work with Dr. Sudha Yadav. Let us work together with renewed enthusiasm. It is special that she took oath as Governor on her birthday,” Shivakumar said, extending his best wishes to her.
He said the state government had worked well with Gehlot over the past five years and that he had extended cooperation to the government. “Karnataka is known for its rich culture. During his tenure, Gehlot became familiar with the state’s good governance, culture, traditions and people. Today, he has handed over the responsibility to Dr. Sudha Yadav,” the Chief Minister said.
Shivakumar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had informed him over the phone about the appointment of the new Governor. He said he had told them that the state government had largely accepted the Governor’s decisions.
The Chief Minister invited Dr. Sudha Yadav to visit Mysuru for the Dasara celebrations, describing the festival as a reflection of Karnataka’s culture and traditions. “Although we may have troubled Gehlot on several issues, he supported the government and guided us in our efforts to improve people’s lives. Karnataka is making a significant contribution to the country across sectors, including the economy, technology and good governance,” he said.
He also acknowledged the efforts of state officials in delivering governance at national and international levels, and thanked the outgoing Governor for his cooperation. “We are all with you, and we thank you for your cooperation,”Shivakumar said.
