World Mental Health Day: Why Talking About Mental Health Matters
In Short
World Mental Health Day promotes awareness, encourages open conversations and reminds people that seeking support is a sign of strength.

Every year on October 10 World Mental Health Day
Every year on October 10 World Mental Health Day brings attention to a topic that often stays hidden behind smiles, busy days and daily tasks. The day raises awareness. Helps people understand mental health issues. It also pushes people to share their feelings and talk about their health.
Mental health is a part of being healthy overall. Stress, worry, feeling alone sadness and being worn out can happen to anyone no matter how old they are or where they come from. A lot of people still don't want to talk about how they feel because they are scared of being judged or not understood.
World Mental Health Day gives a chance to shift how people think. Having a chat with a friend, a member of the family or someone at work can help a person feel not so lonely. Paying attention without saying anything bad can be a way to help someone.
The increasing stress, from work, school, money problems and what society expects has made it really important to talk about health especially for young people. Spending much time on the internet and always looking at other peoples lives can also create more emotional stress.
Awareness is the step when it comes to creating a healthier society. People need to be encouraged to notice changes in their mood and their behavior and to ask for help from a professional when they feel they can't handle things on their own. There should not be any embarrassment in talking to a counsellor, a psychologist or a psychiatrist when support's necessary.
World Mental Health Day reminds us that mental health should be treated with the importance, as physical health. At times asking someone "Are you okay?" and really listening can have an impact.
