YSRCP MLA alleges abuse by caste name by TDP
YSRCP Tadikonda MLA Undavalli Sridevi alleged that she was abused in the name of her caste by some TDP activists when she had gone to a Vinayaka pandal on the occasion of Vinayaka Chaviti at Ananthavaram village on Monday night.
Guntur: YSRCP Tadikonda MLA Undavalli Sridevi alleged that she was abused in the name of her caste by some TDP activists when she had gone to a Vinayaka pandal on the occasion of Vinayaka Chaviti at Ananthavaram village on Monday night.
According to MLA Sridevi, she went to the Vinayaka pandal to pray to the deity. When she was going towards her car after praying to Vinayaka, some TDP activists commented that her presence 'defiled' the pandal.
In a statement on Tuesday, she said their comments hurt her since she belongs to the SC community and demanded that those who abused by caste name should be arrested. She alleged that the TDP leaders were unable to digest the victory of YSRCP in the capital region. She also sought arrest TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu also in this case as accused belong to the TDP and Naidu was pampering them.
Later, she lodged a complaint with DGP Gautam Sawang seeking action against the culprits. TDP MLC Dokka Manikya Varaprasad on Tuesday condemned the incident and demanded that the culprits be punished rigorously. He urged the police to arrest the accused irrespective of political affiliation.
AP Women's Commission chairperson Vasireddy Padma met Guntur rural SP R Jayalakshmi and asked her to take stringent action against who abused the Dalit MLA Sridevi.
Meanwhile, police registered cases against three persons including a minor under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
DSP Srinvasa Reddy identified the two accused as K Shivaiah and K Ramakrishna. He said police arrested Shivaiah in connection with the case and were searching for Ramakrishna.
