Telangana tops in providing food grains to the country
Hyderabad: Telangana stood in the first place in providing the food grains to the country, said CMD of Food Corporation of India DV Prasad on Wednesday.
He said that about 67 per cent of food grains have come from Telangana out of the total food grains they have procured in the country in the summer season. He said that the government agencies have procured record food grains in the country in-spite of lockdown.
He said that FCI has procured about 93 lakh tonnes of food grains in the country this summer and out of this, Telangana contributed about 52 lakh tonnes. Telangana alone has met 50 per cent target of food grains procurement of FCI.
Telangana government has decided to procure each grain being produced in Telangana in view of the lockdown imposed in the country due to spread of Coronavirus. As many as 6,386 procurement centres have been established and about 52 lakh tons of food grains have been procured. Telangana witnessed good crop production this year due to availability of irrigation facilities and power. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has given much importance to irrigation for the past six years and this has ensured improved irrigation facilities.
Meanwhile KCR appreciated farmers of the state for achieving record food grains production. He said that the farmers have utilised irrigation and power facilities effectively.
