Prestigious award for SR Engineering College

Warangal: The SR Engineering College (SREC) has received a prestigious award for "Effective Practices of Incubation Centre by Engineering Institute" at World Education Summit 2020 hosted by Government of Telangana and co-hosted by Telangana State Council of Higher Education in association with Elets Technomedia at Hyderabad.

The World Education Summit (WES) awards aim to identify and acknowledge those individuals, educational institutions, and edu-tech corporate/start-ups that have transformed teaching, learning, and employability outcomes.

Madhukar Reddy, Secretary of the SREC informed that, this award was given to the institute for its continuous efforts in the area of entrepreneurship since 2012. The institute has established Nest for Entrepreneurship in Science & Technology (NEST), which actively engages SREC community in activities and initiatives that instil and promote the spirit of entrepreneurship. It organizes a host of extra-curricular activities (innovation challenges, speaker series, workshops, bootcamps, hackathons, Make'n'Market, and conferences). Nearly 3,200 students were benefited till date through these programmes and 12 incubatees are currently being nurtured by the centre.

Further, SR Innovation Exchange (SRiX) which is a Technology business Incubator, supported by National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), Department of Science and Technology (DST) with more than 30,000 sq.ft space was established in the year 2017 in S R Engineering College campus. SRiX is the centre of an entrepreneurial ecosystem in Warangal providing an environment for start-ups from all over the country to grow innovative ideas to successful companies, with a focus on hardware and related cutting-edge technologies.

It has created a world-class Physical space for entrepreneurs and a real and virtual support system consisting of mentors, subject matter experts, investors, and business service providers to make the entrepreneurial journey of the start-ups fruitful. The major focus is on hardware and related cutting-edge technologies. Hence there is emphasis on product start-ups working with IoT, AI/ML, AR/VR and Robotics technologies in Agriculture, cleantech and Energy. SRiX also provides the latest technology/equipment in the Rapid prototyping space and Maker zone, to develop SRiX as the one stop destination for prototype/product development start-ups.

So far, SRiX and NEST have incubated 43 startups working in various sectors, prominent being Agriculture and Cleantech sectors and in IoT, AR/VR, AI/ML technologies.
