Hyderabad: Alleging massive rigging by the AIMIM party workers, Renu Soni, who contested the GHMC elections on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket from Ward no 49, Ghansi Bazar, filed a writ petition in the High Court urging the court to direct the State Election Commission to conduct repolling in the said ward.

The petitioner added that though she had made a representation to the State Election Commissioner to beef up the security in Ward No. 49, going by the incidents which occurred in 2016 general elections during which there was a mass rigging and booth capturing, the plea fell on deaf ears of SEC and the same situation has now cropped up in the same area, which was a sensitive one. She further accused the MIM activists and their leaders of threatening her polling agents with dire consequences.

Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration & Urban Development, Commissioner and Election Authority, GHMC, Election Returning Officer of Ward no 49 GHMC Ghansi Bazar, State Election Commission and the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad are made respondents in the writ petition that is to come up for hearing before the Chief Justice bench on Friday.
