Hyderabad: BCs hold meeting on implementation of reservations in Basheerbagh

Basheerbagh: A meeting was organised by the BC welfare association here at Press Club to discuss the role of various systems in implementation of reservations provided by the Indian Constitution to downtrodden sections. BC welfare association president R Krishnaiah, former MLC Ramu Naik, TDP state president L Ramana, Mala Mahanadu president G Chennaiah and others participated in the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, various speakers explained about the key role played by various systems in proper implementation of reservations. Speakers felt that reservations were not properly implemented in the last 70 years of independence as judiciary, media, Parliamentary systems were controlled by upper castes. They stressed on the need for a comprehensive discussion on the issue in view of recent Supreme Court ruling on reservations that they were not mandatory as it was not a fundamental right. They opined that reservations could be effectively implemented only when downtrodden sections attain political power. G Chennaiah called downtrodden sections to stage united movements in order to attain political power, so that they could implement reservations.

The meeting, presided by the state president of BC welfare association Erra Satyanarayana, was attended by the leaders of various BC associations Allampalli Ramkoti, Neela Venkatesh and others.
