Gajwel voters feistily cast vote in Lok Sabha polls

Gajwel: The people of Gajwel constituency have maintained the same spirit and commitment towards the Parliamentary electoral process as December Assembly elections. Voters of Gajwel thronged to polling centres to exercise their franchise, despite the scorching heat.

constituency, represented by the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, recorded the highest 88.53 poll percentage in the Assembly elections held in December. This was the best performance in the district. But, this time hot weather became hurdle for the people to visit polling centers. It was debated that whether the constituency would retain its first place this time.

At the end of the day, Gajwel constituency stood first in the polling in the district on Thursday in the Lok Sabha elections. Officials said 1,90,937 votes (76.50 per cent) were polled out of 2,49,602 votes. The constituency was the first in the district even though it recorded 11 per cent less than that of last Assembly elections. There are Gajwal, Siddipet and Dubbak Assembly segments in the district, out of seven in Medak Parliamentary constituency in the district.

Among these, 67.99 per cent voting was recorded in Siddipet, and 73.81 per cent in Dabak. In the Telangana Assembly polls, Gajwel constituency was the top with 88.53 per cent. It is believed that this time the percentage had been dropped due to extreme sunny weather.

The polling started with sluggish in the morning and increased after that. The daily labourers voted in the morning before going to attend their work. Housewives and employees visited the polling booths in the afternoon. Additional security was arranged at seven sensitive polling centers. After the polling, the EVMs were shifted to the strong rooms in Gajwel by 29 routes.
