Elusive Shine MD, 4 others land in police dragnet
Hyderabad: The LB Nagar police on Friday arrested the Shine Children's Hospital Managing Director V Sunil Kumar Reddy (40) along with the four other staff of the hospital whose alleged negligence led to a fire accident at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and produced them in the court for judicial custody.
Based on the complaint lodged by Dongari Naresh (35), a police constable, who lost his 4 months baby boy after sustaining severe burns, police registered a case under section 304-A IPC against the hospital management and took up investigation.
During their investigation, police found that fire occurred in the fourth floor of the hospital building in LB Nagar and from the footage retrieved from the web cameras and witnesses examined it was established that fire and blast occurred around 2:21 am in the air-conditioned controlled room where NICU was located.
The fire reportedly emanated from the refrigerator in the ward, killed a newborn and injured at least five children being treated at NICU. Police found that hospital MD failed to keep fire protection equipment, alarm system, and water sprinklers as per norms.
