Inter-district wrestling tourney inaugurated
Vijayawada: Minister for Water Resources Devineni Umamaheswara Rao inaugurated School Games Federation of India (SGFI) inter-district wrestling championship for under-14 and under-17 boys at Zilla Parishad High School at Jakkampudi JNNURM Colony hear on Sunday.
About 500 players participated in the three-day tournament from all over 13 districts including coaches, managers and officials.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the state government was giving top priority to sports and games.
The minister said that several players who were getting gold, silver and bronze medals in national and international level were being given cash awards at the behest of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
He informed that the state government was offering jobs to sportspersons based on their achievements like PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth.
Vijayawada Rural MPP V Jaganmohana Rao, Marketing Committee former chairman J Gopala Krishna, senior TDP leader Bommasani Subba Rao, Durga temple trust board member G Padma Sekhar, HM P Uma Maheswara Rao and Physical Education Teacher (PET) T Srilatha participated.
