GITAM to host two science workshops

Visakhapatnam: GITAM Institute of Science will organise a two-day workshop on “Recent Advances in Diagnostic and Therapeutics in Infectious Diseases” from November 23 and 24, said Institute Principal Prof K Arunalakshmi here on Wednesday. 

The workshop is organised by the Joint Science Education Panel of the three science academies namely Indian Academy of Sciences (IAS), Indian National Science Academy (INSA) and the National Academy of Sciences (NAS for the benefit of students and teachers at the undergraduate, graduate and research levels.

Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi Director General Dr Shekhar C Monde will participate as chief guest and inaugurate the workshop. Noted scientist Dr Navin Khanna from ICGEB will deliver two lectures on ‘Can we diagnose dengue viral infection from Day-1 of fever?’  and ‘Why do we need to design a dengue vaccine?’ followed by Institute of Life Sciences (Bhubaneswar) emeritus Prof Dr B Ravidran lectures on ‘Evolution of Inflammation’ and ‘Nitric Oxide and Host Immunity.’ University of Hyderabad researcher Prof Shrmistha Banerjee will give lecture on ‘Revisiting tuberculosis vaccine: New approaches and challenges.’

All India tt Tournament

GITAM University is going to host the South Zone and All India Inter Zone-Inter University Table Tennis (M) tournament for 2018-19 from December 3 to 8, GITAM Sports Board secretary K Ramakrishna Rao said  on Wednesday.

A total of 200 players along with their officials and coaches are participating in the event. The university is making all arrangements for this all India event at Kodiramamurhti Indore stadium at GITAM campus, he added.
