Pranay Act demanded to punish killers of inter-caste couples

Kadapa: The Human Rights Protection Council of India (HRPCI), headed by Koppula Vijay Kumar, on Wednesday demanded a Pranay Act by the Union government on the line of Nirbhaya Act. Speaking to the media, he stated that the Act would help reduce the agony of mothers belonging to weaker sections.

Kumar, while supporting love marriages between couples belonging to different castes, pointed out the Constitution did not bar inter-caste weddings. Referring to the Pranay-Amruta’s love marriage and his honour killing, he said resorting to young man’s murder was an offence. Hence the killers of Pranay should be punished under the Nirbhaya-like Act.

Kumar suggested that the government and the police should give protection to couples, who have gone through inter-caste marriages. Among those present were Kadapa district chairman M Sukumar and members of the council.
