IGMC stadium gallery to be christened after Jyothi Surekha in Vijayawada

Vijayawada: Mayor Koneru Sridhar on Friday said the people of Vijayawada should feel proud of international archer Jyothi Surekha as she achieved silver medal in Asian Games 2018.

Addressing the gathering at a programme organised at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram, the mayor announced Rs 5 lakh prize money for the archer for her achievement and also announced that the corporation would christine Jyothi Surekha’s name to a gallery in Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Outdoor Stadium.

The mayor and the VMC commissioner J Nivas honoured Jyothi Surekha on winning silver medal in Compound Archery competition in Asian Games held at Jakarta, Indonesia.

They felicitated her with a shawl and presented a memento. 

Deputy Mayor GV Ramana Rao, Sports Authority of AP chairman P Ankamma Chowdary, Corporators from Vijayawada individually facilitated the silver medalist with shawls and  flower bouquets. 

J Nivas appreciated Jyothi Surekha for her commitment and hard work and said that she would be a role model for many sports lovers and players.

The commissioner congratulated Surekha’s parents on the occasion.

The mayor said that the corporation also honoured a student who was selected for the national team with a cricket kit and cash prize.
