Special measures to preserve water bodies initiated
Patancheru: Joint Collector Nikhila instructed officials to complete the comprehensive survey of all the water bodies in HMDA limits in the seven mandals of the district.
She was speaking at the review meeting held at Ameenpur Tahasildar office on Thursday. Tahasildars and officials of HMDA, GHMC and PCB attended the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, the Joint Collector said that special measures are being taken to preserve all the water bodies in the district. An initiative to revive the ancient chain system of the tanks has been taken up by the district administration.
As the seven mandals of the district are in HMDA limits, there is a danger of encroachments in various lakes, tanks and other water bodies, she said. Hence, to save the tanks and water bodies in the seven mandals from encroachments, special measures were initiated, she said.
Joint Collector said that a comprehensive survey on tanks and other water bodies has been taken up and 50 per cent of the survey is completed. She instructed the district officials to complete the survey on war-footing. She urged various departments such as Revenue, Irrigation, HMDA, GHMC and PCB to work in a coordinated manner to save water bodies.
The limits of various tanks and water bodies would be finalized after the completion of the survey and action would be initiated against encroachments, she added.
Among those who participated in the review meeting included tahasildars Swamy, Yadagiri Reddy, Parthasarathi, Jayaram, Rammohan, Akhila Prasanna and other officials.
