Santosh Nagar: Despite several representations made by residents, the constant problem of sewerage overflow in Santosh Nagar Colony has irked the residents. Regular inundation of roads has made them slippery and there is also growth of algae. Already, facing severe hardships, residents nearby fear outbreak of vector-borne diseases in the locality.

The roads are filled with sewerage water for many months. The residents are having a tough time and the prevailing condition is also causing inconvenience to the commuters. Along with drain water, trash is also spilling out from manholes and turning the road hazardous. Several representations were made to the officials, but in vain. Regular commuters who take this route are agitated. Many scoff at having to change their route, of course, owing to the drain water leakage.

"Due to overflowing of sewerage water from 2 manholes continuously the entire road is filled with water. Emanating foul smell from this is deterring the customers, which has badly affected my business. Moreover the water stagnation points have become a breeding of mosquitoes," said Rajesh, a shopkeeper.

Some residents said that it was really disappointing that they had been complaining to the officials about the issue, but the latter were are not paying any heed. "There should be no more delay and officials need to check the condition of drainage and clean it regularly or fix it permanently as further neglect would make this area prone to vector-borne diseases," worried a resident Ayaz Khan.

He also said that while crossing this road, half of the bike tyres were getting submerged in sewerage water and motorists were hard put to wade through the water. "We have been noticing it for the past several months. The entire road is inundated due to overflow which is spread for several metres. After complaining to the HMWSSB officials, they are fixing it temporarily, and again within 2 days the water is overflowing again," he deplored.

As algae is forming in the stagnant water, residents are clearing the water in front of their houses, but the problem is recurring in no time. "The officials have to solve the permanently," demanded P Satish, a resident.
