A picture of utter neglect

Puranapul, which represents Division-52 under GHMC limits, is a predominant part of densely populated Charminar Constituency.

This ward carries a mixed population of Muslims and Hindus. It has a significant number of BC voters, and is thus reserved for BC candidate. Out of a total of 34,410 votes in this ward, only 16,313 were polled during last election wherein with just a 8,554 votes in his favour, the MIM candidate from BC community, Sunnam Raj Mohan, got elected and is now representing the ward as Corporator.

This division is also known for its tight grain housing with narrow streets. Issues such as garbage collection persist, as heaps of garbage at every few meters are visible to visitors. Overflowing sewerage, supply of polluted water and interrupted power supply are some issues that local people are facing regularly. "You could witness garbage every few meters in the area as there is no proper sanitation maintenance here. Several streets are filled with overflowing sewerage or murky water and GHMC officials don't give a hoot to the suffering of the people. Polluted water being supplied by the HMWS&SB is another issue that adds woes to the residents' problems," said Mohd Zarrar, a resident of Hussaini Alam.

"GHMC officials and staff don't pay heed to the grievances even after taking them to their notice. People choose not to vote in favour of anyone and stay away in their house on polling day due to the sufferings they are smarting under here for several years. You could find corruption at all levels in the GHMC as not a single work will be addressed without a favour," rued Mohd Mohsin a resident of Koka Ki Tatti, Hussaini Alam.

"Leave alone fulfilling of election promises such as better amenities in every colony in the ward, we haven't even getting proper facilities like regular garbage collection, sweeping of roads, attending to complaints overflowing of sewerage in streets and fresh water for drinking," he added.
