Drive to save snakes on Nag Panchami

Update: 2019-08-05 00:34 IST

Hyderabad: On the eve of Nag Panchami festival on Monday, the Bharatiya Prani Mitra Sangh, along with Wildlife Protection Society and other animal welfare organizations, will be on vigil to rescue Snakes from so-called Snake Charmers or Saperas on August 5.

During the Nag Panchami every year, cobras are caught, tortured and defanged unethically. Snakes are forcibly fed milk and other fluids which act as potential toxins to their body, resulting in severe indigestion and eventual death. They appealed to people in the State to discourage this cruel practice and perform pujas only in temples.

A dedicated helpline in this regard has been established. If snake charmers are found moving around with snakes, the people may dial 9394005600 and alert the NGOs to come to the rescue of snakes.
