Nag Panchami celebrated in Nizamabad

Nizamabad/Kamareddy: Nag Panchami is a traditional Hindu festival, symbolic of snake worship on the fifth day of bright half of Lunar month of Shravana, according to the Hindu calendar.

The women in Kamareddy and Nizamabad districts have celebrated Nag Panchami on Monday.

In Kamareddy district headquarters, women offered milk to the snakes at Angadi Bazar, Karshaka B Ed College, Saibaba temple and other temples. In Nizamabad district, women offered milk, flowers, fruits to the snake idol for health, wealth and prosperity of their family members. People thronged Bade Ram mandir, temple at Rotary Nagar and other areas in Nizamabad city.

The popular belief is that Sheshanag of Lord Shiva will balance the entire earth on its back. Hence people worship the snakes seeking the Seshanag protection to their families from the danger of snakes.

This year the festival came on Monday, that too in Sawan month. As per the pandits, this auspicious time came after 125 years.
