Awareness spread on vector-borne diseases

Rajendranagar: On the eve of 'World Mosquito Day', the officials and staff of Entomology Department, GHMC Rajendranagar Circle were seen busy in spreading the message of mosquito menace and its preventive measures through marathon rallies and awareness programmes in their areas of operation.

The officials took out a bike rally to bring awareness among the masses about the benefit of keeping their surroundings clean and tidy. People were taught about the repercussions of allowing water stagnation in the surrounding and leaving used water in empty vessels. An awareness

rally was also organised in Mailardevpally division where in local corporator Srinivas Reddy also participated. Hundreds of school children took part in the rally under the supervision of entomology department staff and local Corporator.

The officials informed the students that mosquitoes breed in stagnant, standing fresh water often found around the home. Even in tin cans, buckets, discarded tyres and other artificial containers that hold water.

Another programme was held at Krishi School in Agriculture Colony, Rajendranagar to create awareness about the importance of cleanliness for keeping them safe from seasonal disease and other health issues.

A free medical camp was also organised at Shivrampally to facilitate the poor to get the medicine for free and prevent them from falling to seasonal diseases. "To tame the seasonal disease from spreading, some sort of precautions is necessary to be taken up and it would be better if it starts from maintaining cleanliness in and around the houses at first," said the Chief Entomologist, Venkatesh.

Senior entomologist Namala Srinivas, assistant entomologist Udai Kiran and other staff members among others participated in the programmes.
