Burqa vs Ghoonghat

Update: 2019-05-03 23:06 IST

A burqa is an enveloping outer garment by women in some Islamic traditions to cover themselves both body and face in public while a ghoonghat is a veil of headscarf covering head only worn by married women in Hindu,Jain and Sikh communities.

The veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar's repartee that a ban should also be imposed on donning a ghoonghat if a ban on burqa is imposed in our country, emulating Sri Lanka for security reasons,is far from fair enough.

Covering the entire body is not the same as covering the head only.

Instances are also not wanting where under the guise of burqa, males sometimes pose themselves to be females with an ulterior motive and thus take the law enforcing authorities for a ride.
