Taslima Nasreen Gets An Earful From AR Rahman's Daughter Khatija Over Burqa

Update: 2020-02-16 16:55 IST

AR Rahman is one of the most talented musicians in the country. He is synonymous with some path-breaking musical scores. The mozart of Madras enjoys a huge fan following and thus whatever he posts on social media draws a lot of responses. Mind you, Rahman receives both bouquets and brickbats for his posts. One such post was when he shared pic of his family in which his daughter was seen in a burqa.

Netizens slammed Rahman for being so oppressive to which Rahman cooly replied that his daughter was wearing a burqa at her will and that it was not enforced.

Now, the issue is back again, thanks to Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen.

The Bangla author posted a message along with a pic of Rahman's daughter wearing a headscarf. Her message read: "I absolutely love A R Rahman's music. But whenever i see his dear daughter, i feel suffocated. It is really depressing to learn that even educated women in a cultural family can get brainwashed very easily!"

But little did she expect Rahman's daughter Khatija to retaliate. Khatika wrote back saying, "Dear Taslima Nasreen, I'm sorry you feel suffocated by my attire. Please get some fresh air, cause I don't feel suffocated rather I'm proud and empowered for what I stand for. I suggest you google up what true feminism means because it isn't bashing other women down nor bringing their fathers into the issue. I also don't recall sending my photos to you for your perusal."

To that Taslima wrote back: Burqawalis are empowered. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.

Now, we wonder if this virtual war of words will ever end.
