Released on May 27 that year, a Wikipedia reference says the film is reportedly inspired by a Pakistani film released in 1976 titled 'Talaash'. The theme of three children getting separated and re-united at the climax was also similar to the 1965 hit 'Waqt'.

Yet, religious tolerance as a theme in the communally- amicable milieu of Hindi cinema was a regular point of reference which never failed to appeal among the audience of Indo-Gangetic plain.

Vinod Khanna – Shabana Azmi pair, which was a hit one those days was complimented well with the young energy of Rishi Kapoor- Neetu Singh who were lovers separated by the girl's stiff father.
