Vijayawada: AIDS can be controlled, says Dr Samaram

Vijayawada: Krishna District Red Cross president Dr G Samaram said that only by creating awareness among people we can control HIV/AIDS. To mark World AIDS Day, Vasavya Mahila Mandali (VMM) has organised breakfast for around 100 children on the VMM premises on Sunday.

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest of the programme Dr Samaram briefed about HIV/AIDS, how it is infected and how to behave with people infected with HIV. He said that the theme of this year's World AIDS Day is 'Communities make the difference'.

He said that by the year 2030 it would be 90-90-90, which means 90 percent of people should under HIV tests, and 90 percent of them will have to go to ART centres and 90 percent of them will have to use medicines prescribed by ART. He said that children and youth should be a part to control HIV/AIDS, he said and added if HIV children are show discrimination in schools they should complaint to the teachers.

VMM president Dr B Keerthy, secretary G Rashmi, warden K Pushparagam, students and others were present.
