Vijayawada: Goddess Kanakadurga appeared in Sri Durga Devi alankaram on the eighth day of Dasara Navaratrulu on Sunday. Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) presented a silk sari to the Goddess Durga as part of the tradition.

TTD chairman Y V Subba Reddy visited the temple along with his family members and performed special pujas to the Goddess. On the occasion, he said that he prayed the goddess to bless the Navaratna programme of the state government and also Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Several VIPs, including veteran actor Krishnam Raju, took part in the celebrations. He participated in kumkum puja along with his wife. Devotees who take Bhavani deeksha thronged the temple in large numbers from the early hours. In view of heavy rush of devotees and long queue lines, temple administration stopped the antaralaya darshanam for some time.

The Bhavani maladharana devotees requested the temple management to provide special queue line for them since they were reaching the temple from various areas on foot. Meanwhile, the officials said that 3.80 lakh devotees visited the temple on Saturday on the occasion of auspicious Moola Nakshatram when the Goddess is adorned as Saraswathi Devi.

The Goddess Durga will appear in Sri Mahishasura Mardini alankaram on Monday. The temple management and police made all the necessary arrangements to regulate the increasing number of devotees.
