Srikakulam: YSRCP Government committed to provide water for irrigation says Speaker T Sitaram

Srikakulam: The YSRCP government is committed to provide water for irrigation, said Assembly Speaker T Sitaram here on Tuesday.

He was inspecting Narayanapuram irrigation project modernisation works at Narayanapuram village under Burja mandal on Tuesday.

The project is located across the Nagavali river and it is intended to standardise the extent of ayacut. As much as Rs 138.96 crore was allotted for the modernisation works being carried on a warfooting.

After completion of the modernisation works irrigation facility will be extended to 38,000 acres spreading over 92 villages in seven mandals.

Previously water storage facility was not assured in the project and ayacut farmers used to mostly depend on rains.

The government fixed a time-bound schedule for completion of irrigation project works and the Narayanapuram works will also be completed by next year and farmers will get sufficient water from next year kharif season, the Speaker assured them. YSRCP Rajam MLA K Jogulu and the Irrigation officials were present.
