Srikakulam: Universities in the State are going to revamp their degree courses from coming academic year i.e.2020-2021.

In the wake of increase in unemployment problem and large number of students coming out of universities every year without acquiring job oriented skills, AP State Council for Higher Education (APSCHE) issued directions to all universities in the State to revamp degree courses. The main aim of the revamping exercise is to provide skill development training to the degree students to help them get jobs after they leave their colleges.

The training courses will be internship courses with at least 10 months duration. This 10 months course will be incorporated in their three year degree course. The summer and other holidays available in between different semesters will be utilised for the purpose.

Various diploma and certificate courses have been proposed by considering local area requirements. The proposed courses include short hand, laboratory technology, accountancy and computer courses etc. B R Ambedkar University (BRAU) officials in Srikakulam communicated the guidelines and directions to all degree colleges affiliated to the university.

Total 101 degree colleges are being run under affiliation to BRAU. Of these, 12 are government colleges and one is aided college. Remaining 88 colleges are under private managements. Every year about 25,000 students are leaving these colleges by completing various degree courses. But most of them are remaining idle after coming out of the colleges due to lack of employment opportunities. The traditional degree courses acquired by them have no demand in the jobs market.

"We have decided to start job oriented internship programmes as part of degree courses from the coming academic year 2020-2021 to create job opportunities to students," said Vice-Chancellor of BRAU, K Ramji.
